Project Prospectus

Project Prospectus:

Essential Question: How can Slp's help children with communication disorders over come the negative impact that public perception can have on a communication disorder?

Foundation Questions:
1.What are communication disorders?
2. How does communication disorders affect the live of the child?
3. How does the public react to a person with a speech disorder?
4.How can a child's self-esteem be affected by having a communication disorder?
5.In what ways does the communication disorder affect their social communication?
6.What are strategies that a SLP can use to help the child improve their self-image?

Tentative Point: That Slp's can play a major role in improving the self-esteem of a child with a poor self-image caused by a communication disorder.

Genres:
1. Webliography: the voice of the clinician.

2. Poem- voice of the child. This way I could write a poem on how having a communication disorders affects the child. How do his/her peers react to their communication disorder? I can write about how it is like to go through life with a communication disorder and include his/her fears, thoughts, etc. The intended audience would be for his/her peers that way they can know exactly how living with a communication disorder affects them.

3. Power Point Presentation: Is the voice of the clinician. This is intended towards parents and teachers to learn more about CD's.

4. Letter to the Editor: voice of a parent who has a child who has a communication disorder. Basically it is to address to the public of how a CD affects the child and what can be done about it.

5. Journal Entry: voice of the teacher. This way the teacher can write about how the child is treated in the classroom, how he/she performs. etc. Basically how the disorder affects the child.

6. Interview: clinician and teacher. Here clincians will discuss ways to help the teacher increase the self-esteem of a child.

Integrating the genres:
I like the idea of an ongoing journal starting from the teacher and what she is observing etc. then I can add different genres within the journal. I am not sure if really what I will be writing might be more of a narrative. Either way I would like my genres to be developed in a journal or narrative form.

Foundation Questions

My first essential question was, what is the most effective way that speech pathologists can help patients focus on treatment rather than on their disorder? This however was too broad and I needed to focus my question on a certain topic. I chose one of my interests, which is phonological disorders. I wanted to go with the same concept as my first question, but I realized that alone is not enough to research on. So, I changed my question around that would allow me to focus on my first question .
Well I changed my question again focusing more on what I wanted the first time. I chose not to focus on a specific disorder .
